What is The Bike Rack?
The City of Cleveland and The Downtown Cleveland Alliance have partnered to offer the region’s first full service bicycle parking and commuter center. A City of Cleveland recreational facility, The Bike Rack demonstrates a collective effort to create a more bike friendly environment in downtown Cleveland, welcoming bicyclists with the convenience of secure bicycle parking and fulfilling everyday commuting needs with individual shower/changing facilities, lockers, rentals and a bicycle repair shop. Housed in a LEED certified building, The Bike Rack is located in the Gateway North Parking Facility at the corners of E. 4th and High St. in Downtown Cleveland, OH. Situated across the street from the Gateway Complex, the Bike Rack is within a ten minute walk of Cleveland’s major entertainment and professional sports arenas.
How much will it cost to use The Bike Rack?
Just like any other public outdoor bike rack, there is no cost to utilize the outdoor bike rack on the plaza.
Should a cyclist desire to utilize the indoor parking area, the lockers and the shower/changing facilities, patrons are offered two options. The best value is to purchase a Monthly Pass for $25. The monthly pass allows the holder to enter the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to park your bicycle and pass holders will be able to access the showers and locker room during the hours when the facility is staffed by an attendant. There is an annual fee of $20 to receive and maintain your access card.
A walk-in daily pass is also available for $5 per day. A daily pass allows entrance into the secure parking area, aceess to the lockers and the use of the shower/changing facility during normal business hours only.
What type of locker room facilities will be available?
The secure locker room area will be accessible only during normal operating hours when the facility is staffed by an attendant. Located behind the reception counter, the locker room contains 38 lockers specifically designed for the working professional.
The locker room area is unisex and, for security reasons, viewable from the reception counter, so patrons will change in one of three individual shower/changing rooms. Each changing room includes a shower, toilet, mirrored sink with counter space and a fold-out seat. One of the shower/changing rooms is ADA-accessible. Patrons will bring their belongings inside with them, utilizing the installed hooks to hang their clothes.
Towel service is available at The Bike Rack for an additional charge of $1 per towel for monthly pass holders and $2 per towel for walk-ins. Forget your shampoo, soap or razor? We’ll have personal hygiene products available for purchase as well.
Do I need to bring my own locks?
Yes. The Bike Rack cannot assume responsibility for personal items left unattended at the facility. As an added measure of safety and security, you should lock up all of your personal items. Locks are not provided for locker room lockers or bike racks but if you forget a lock, they will be available for rental.
Do I need a lock for the public day-use lockers in the parking area?
No. There are 32 coin-operated day-use lockers available inside the parking area. These lockers will be especially useful for patrons who wish to access The Bike Rack after hours when there is no attendant on duty. The day-use lockers are for short-term storage only and items will be removed after 24 hours.
Are there assigned racks and lockers at The Bike Rack?
No. All lockers and bike racks are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
What if I lose my access card?
There will be a $10 charge to replace a lost access card.
How long can I leave my bicycle at The Bike Rack?
The Bike Rack is meant to be a bicycle parking facility, not a storage facility. The policy is that bikes are not to be left for a period of more than 24 hours. That being said, we understand that circumstances may arise where you cannot always retrieve your bicycle due to weather, time of day, sickness, etc. If you cannot retrieve your bicycle within 24 hours, you must contact The Bike Rack staff.
